“Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves do what it says” … Why is merely listening and not doing like self-deception?

• Faith without works is dead
• You don’t know what you don’t know until your faith has been tried through actions

Why is merely listening to the word like looking into a mirror?

• The word tells us who we are just like a mirror
• You should know the word as well as your self-image because you want the word to become a part of you

What are some practical applications of today’s sermon on staying strong?

• Get your nose into the Bible
• Memorize the bible
• Mentorship

James 2:1-13 Favortism Forbidden

• Note the transition from caring for widows and orphans
• Why should we not show favortism?  because we become judges with evil thoughts, because we have hidden motives
• Where do we see favortism in the church?  cliques, guys praying for pretty girls, preferential treatment, racism
